Some questions and answers

The time for fishing is limited for most anglers. On average each angler gets to fish 13 times a year. Our time is therefore quite limited and every additional minute counts, especially when fishing. The most precious time is lost searching for the supposedly best fishing spot. If we are unsuccessful, we spend our time constantly on the go.

That is where we enter the equation. Using modern methods such as fish finders, net and electrofish or behavioural studies, scientists throughout Europe are researching the pike’s behavioral patterns.

Scientists are often interested in the same questions as we are.

And we can use their findings to improve our fishing significantly.

The answers to this question will help us to choose the perfect bait for each season.

If you know the optimal size of the prey, you are more likely to pick the most suitable bait size.

If you can only fish a few days a year, you should have an idea of the best fishing times. Scientists have found that this depends on the water and the season. What works in May could lead to many slow days in June.

Pike fishing requires a lot of finesse.

Those who mindlessly cast and reel will go home empty-handed quite often.

Understanding how the pike hunts, how it sneaks up on its prey and how long it takes to attack will give you a better feel for how to present your bait. That allows you to move your bait realistically and attractively for the pike.

No, not all this information is freely available on the internet. We spent a lot of time browsing through scientific databases and spent a lot of money on individual studies.

These studies are often only 5-10 pages long but sometimes cost more than this book.
We have read and evaluated many of these studies in different languages. Scientists have marked pike with transmitters all over the world.

That enabled us to record the respective positions of the pike across many water bodies over months and years. Whether in rivers or lakes, we evaluated the pike’s behavioral patterns and were able to draw conclusions about potential hotspots for each season.
